We are excited to announce that Leigh Curl will serve as our ministerial intern this summer. Leigh is a first year student in the Master of Divinity degree program at Duke Divinity School in Durham, N.C. We look forward to welcoming Leigh into our community this summer as we live out our commitment to develop future leaders of the Church and deepen our partnership with the Divinity school.
A native of Memphis, TN, Leigh graduated from Baylor University in 2016 with a bachelor of arts degree in religion, concentrating on Church History. She was heavily involved with the department of New Student Programs and Student Foundation, recruiting students and leading orientation programs.
Leigh brings to VBC not only a sharp mind, but also a great passion for missions. Her meaningful experiences serving others on mission trips both at home and abroad have shaped her perspective of ministry. “I began to see the relational necessity in missions,” she writes, “and the relationships I cultivated through those experiences are invaluable.” During her summer with us, Leigh will focus on engaging in our mission projects, preaching, teaching Bible study, and serving in other areas.
Other things to know about Leigh include: She is an avid Memphis Grizzlies and Baylor Bear fan. Leigh is very passionate about barbeque (according to her, “the only acceptable barbeque is Memphis barbeque.” Although Pastor Austin, a native Texan, has his own opinion on the matter). A lover of reading, music, and hiking, she looks forward to a summer of growth and fun.
From Sunday, May 28th through Sunday, August 6th, VBC will serve as a teaching congregation for Leigh. Pastor Austin will mentor her during her internship and a group of church members will serve as a Lay Support Team. We look forward to providing a supportive community for Leigh to discern what it means for her to faithfully respond to God’s call to ministry and being a welcoming space for her to share her gifts with us.
We hope you will join us in a few weeks as we welcome Leigh during worship!
